"To prevent the possibility of direct fire at Israeli communities, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I have authorized the IDF to advance and hold additional dominant terrain in Lebanon and defend the border communities from there," says Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz.
According to him, the Israel Defense Forces continue to take strong action against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.
Israeli soldiers are operating in southern Lebanon and are stationed at several points near the border area.
"The Hezbollah terrorist organization chose to attack Israel on behalf of the Iranian regime, and it will bear the consequences of its actions. The IDF will not allow harm to Israeli civilians, and will continue to act to defend the State of Israel and its citizens," the IDF says.
Background
On March 2, Israel announced the start of an offensive campaign against the Hezbollah terrorist group in Lebanon. The operation could last several days.
Israel has already carried out several waves of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Beirut and southern Lebanon following rocket attacks.
On February 28, the US and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran. Tel Aviv stated that the main goal of the strikes was to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Subsequently, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, at least four members of his family, and many high-ranking officials were killed. All of them died as a result of a series of missile strikes by the US and Israel.
Tehran responded by striking Israeli territory and US bases in the Middle East. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the start of the most intense offensive operation against the US and Israel.
