Israel announced the start of an offensive campaign against the terrorist group Hezbollah in Lebanon. Operation may last several days, said Chief of Staff of Israel Defense Forces Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, The Times of Israel reports.

According to him, the Israeli military is moving from defensive actions to active offensive after night rocket and drone attacks by Hezbollah.

"We have begun an offensive campaign against Hezbollah. We are not just on the defensive. Now we go on the offense," Zamir emphasized during the assessment of the operational situation.

He also warned that combat operations may drag on.

"We need to prepare for several days of fighting, many. We need strong defensive readiness and continuous offensive preparedness, in waves," the Chief of Staff noted.

Israel has already carried out several waves of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Beirut and southern Lebanon after rocket attacks.

Conflict in the Middle East

As is known, on February 28 United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran. In Tel Aviv, it was stated that the main goal of strikes is to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

US President Donald Trump, in turn, announced intention to destroy the Iranian fleet and defense industry, and also called on the citizens of the country to overthrow the current regime.

Later, it became known about the death of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with at least four members of his family, as well as a number of high-ranking officials of the country. All of them were killed as a result of a series of missile strikes by the United States and Israel.

Tehran, in response, struck the territory of Israel and American bases in the Middle East. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the start of the most intense offensive operation against the United States and Israel.
