Israel carried out airstrikes against rocket launcher barrels belonging to the Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon. The operation came in response to a rocket attack from Lebanon on northern Israel, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Telegram channel.

According to the military command press office, Israeli fighter jets recently targeted several Hezbollah rocket systems in southern Lebanon. These systems were deemed a threat to Israel.

"As a result of one of the successful strikes on the launchers, several projectiles were identified toward Israeli territory. One projectile crossed from Lebanon into the area of Migdal Tefen and it fell in an open area," the IDF reported.

It was also noted that there were no reports of casualties. During the attack, sirens were heard in the northern region of the country.

"The rest of the launches did not cross into Israeli territory," the Israeli military added.

Shelling from Lebanon and Israeli strikes

Between Israel and Lebanon, where the Iran-backed Islamist group Hezbollah operates, clashes have been frequent. However, recent attacks have notably intensified amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for a strike on Israeli territory on August 3rd. Before that, on July 27th, Hezbollah launched an attack on a stadium in the Golan Heights, resulting in the deaths of over 10 children and injuries to more than 30 people.

Israel has stated that Hezbollah's attack will not go unanswered and has warned Lebanon of a potentially devastating war.

Reports indicate that Israel has been preparing for a multi-day assault from Iran and Hezbollah. On August 20th, the Israeli army struck Hezbollah storage facilities in the Bekaa Valley. More recently, Israeli forces targeted Hezbollah sites in the areas of Maroun al-Ras and Aita al-Shaab in southern Lebanon.

On August 25th, Hezbollah militants from Lebanon fired hundreds of rockets and drones into Israel. The IDF responded with strikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.

In the US, there are concerns that this conflict could escalate into a regional war in the Middle East.
