Israel carries out airstrike on Beirut: Footage of aftermath
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) struck Lebanon again today, September 20, with the target being the capital, Beirut, according to the IDF on Telegram and The Times of Israel.
"The DF conducted a targeted strike in Beirut," the Israeli military command stated in the report.
The IDF also clarified that, at this stage, there have been no changes to the rules for civilians. Further details about the attack are promised to be provided later.
Meanwhile, Lebanese media report that Israel targeted the Dahiyeh neighborhood in Beirut, a stronghold of Hezbollah.
According to Israeli media, the target of the attack was Ibrahim Aqil, a member of Hezbollah's high military leadership.
The US is seeking Aqil, as he may have been involved in organizing the bombing of the US Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983, as well as overseeing the kidnapping of American and German hostages in Lebanon during the 1980s. A reward of $7 million has been offered for him.
The Times of Israel noted that this is only the third time since the beginning of the war that Israel has struck Beirut.
In January, an IDF attack in Beirut resulted in the elimination of Hamas Deputy Leader Saleh al-Arouri, while in July, an airstrike killed Hezbollah military chief Fuad Shukr.
