On the night of March 2, the Israel Defense Forces began striking Hezbollah in Lebanon. This happened after the militant group carried out an attack on Iran, according to posts from the IDF on Telegram and The Times of Israel.
“Sirens sounded in several areas in northern Israel following projectiles launched from Lebanon,” the post said at 01:05.
Half an hour later, the IDF reported that Israeli Air Force units intercepted one missile, while several others fell in open areas. There was no information about casualties or damage.
A little later, the Israel Defense Forces stated that the missile fired at the country was launched by Hezbollah.
“The IDF has begun striking targets of the Hezbollah terrorist organization across Lebanon… In response to Hezbollah's projectile fire toward the State of Israel,” the statement said at 02:47.
They stressed that by firing on Israel, Hezbollah acts on behalf of the Iranian regime, so the IDF will respond to the group’s actions.
Shortly afterward, Hezbollah confirmed that it had carried out the missile attack. They said the reason was revenge for the blood of Muslim Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. They added that during the attack, they struck an air defense target south of Haifa.
This attack was the first such incident since the ceasefire in November 2024.
