On the night of March 2, a powerful explosion was heard in the area of the British air base RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus. The blast was heard after a security threat was declared, according to the Daily Mail and the Cyprus Mail.
According to media reports, base personnel were informed about the threat and instructed to return home and stay indoors until further notice.
In addition, they were ordered to move away from windows and hide behind or under solid, heavy furniture and wait for further instructions.
The strong explosion was heard around midnight, but it is still unknown whether it is connected to events in Iran. At the same time, the incident occurred after UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer gave the United States permission to carry out defensive strikes on Iranian targets from British bases.
It is currently unclear whether there were any casualties or what the scale of the damage is.
Britain did not participate directly in the strikes on Iran that reportedly affected the country’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. However, on Sunday, British fighter jets shot down an Iranian drone that was flying toward Qatar.
