The Irish government has approved an additional €100 million aid package for Ukraine, which will be used to procure non-lethal military equipment, RTE reports.

The Irish government considers US President Donald Trump's decision to suspend military aid to Ukraine "a very, very serious development." Prime Minister Micheál Martin called Trump's decision "a serious setback" and urged "continued engagement between everybody".

Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris shared a similar view, stating that European partners have been working extremely hard in recent days to demonstrate not only solidarity but also practical support for Ukraine. According to him, there remains a strong need for the European Union and the United States to work together on this issue.

Additionally, the Irish government approved a draft legislation that removes the requirement for UN authorization for the deployment of Irish peacekeeping forces abroad.

Previously, on February 27, Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Shannon Airport during a brief stopover on the Ukrainian leader’s way to the US.

During the meeting, Martin reaffirmed Ireland's readiness to support Ukraine, including by sending peacekeepers.
