Irish police have launched an investigation into the possible pursuit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s plane by unidentified drones, The Journal reports.
According to the outlet, law enforcement opened the investigation after an official request from Ireland's Defense Forces.
The investigation is being led by the Special Detective Unit (SDU), which is responsible for internal state security, counterterrorism, and other threats, including espionage.
The SDU is expected to consult with international partners as part of the investigation.
At the same time, Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin emphasized that he considers the "security dimension" of President Zelenskyy's visit went "particularly well."
He said that Ireland's National Security Council will convene in the near future and may discuss the drone issue.
"I don't want to comment too much on security matters, but suffice to say we will do a review obviously, and part of that review will obviously be in capacity on the issue of drones," Martin added.
The head of the Irish government said that Ireland will cooperate and "share experience" with other EU members to understand how they deal with similar incidents.
"A lot of it is probing and testing, we suspect," he noted.
Martin also did not say whether Russia was behind the drone incidents.

According to the outlet, these were military-type drones. It is believed that someone may have tried to disrupt the Ukrainian leader’s visit to Ireland.
