On Monday, June 8, Iran announced a halt to its military operations against Israel, but at the same time issued an ultimatum, according to the Xinhua news agency.
Following an exchange of strikes with Israel, Iran's military command announced the cessation of military operations.
On June 7, Iran launched at least three waves of ballistic missiles at Israel for the first time since April. The Israeli military intercepted approximately ten missiles, and there were no reports of fatalities from direct hits.
Following these strikes, US President Donald Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and urged him to refrain from an immediate military response, arguing that negotiations with Iran were, in his view, in their final stage.
However, Israel did not agree with this position. On the morning of June 8, Israeli forces carried out strikes on missile launchers and military facilities in western and central Iran.
Tel Aviv has stated it is prepared for hostilities that could last at least several days and does not rule out further escalation of the conflict, including its full resumption. The US president has already reacted to the exchange of strikes between the two sides.
Amid the renewed escalation in the Middle East, global oil prices continue to rise. During Asian trading, Brent crude gained 3.8% to reach $96.64 per barrel, while WTI crude rose 4.6% to $94.68 per barrel.
