US President Donald Trump plans to urgently call Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. The US leader wants to discuss Israel's potential retaliatory strike against Iran, Axios reports.
Donald Trump told the outlet that he would ask Netanyahu not to carry out a retaliatory strike.
"I am going to call Bibi right now and tell him not to retaliate. Each of them had their fun. Israel had its strike, and Iran had its strike. We don't need another one," he said.
In a separate comment to Fox News, the US president also responded to Iran's missile attack.
"What I would suggest to Iran: You've shot your missiles, that's enough. Get back to the table and make a deal," he said.
Meanwhile, Fox News sources within the Iranian government claim that Tehran does not believe Trump is capable of decisive action, suggesting he lacks the political will to engage in a broader conflict.
Background
Earlier, reports emerged that Iran launched a missile attack on Israel today for the first time in a long period. Tehran fired two ballistic missiles at northern Israel, both of which were intercepted by air defense systems.
In addition, this week, Iran suspended talks with the United States over continued Israeli strikes in Lebanon. Tehran said it would return to negotiations only after Israeli operations in the region stop.
