The Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened by Iran until the United States fully meets all the conditions set out in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, said Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, according to the Iranian Mehr news agency.

Iran blocks the Strait of Hormuz

Ghalibaf said the Strait of Hormuz would remain blocked until the United States:

  • lifts oil sanctions;
  • releases frozen assets;
  • ends its blockade;
  • stops threats and military operations on all fronts.

The Iranian parliament speaker warned that Iran was ready to inflict a greater defeat on the United States in proportion to its actions.

"As we had predicted, the enemy, who had accepted the agreement to end the war out of desperation, soon reneged on its commitments in order to compensate for its heavy political defeat," Ghalibaf said.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Russia is supplying Iran with explosives, drone components and ammunition via the Caspian Sea. Tehran is using these supplies to rebuild its military arsenal.

US President Donald Trump has also again discussed plans to declare the Strait of Hormuz US territory. He also spoke about the current state of shipping through the strait.

In addition, Iran is preparing for a possible escalation not only around the Strait of Hormuz but across the wider region.
