The country's leader has once again shared plans to declare the Strait of Hormuz US territory. He also spoke about the current state of shipping through the strait, according to a statement by US President Donald Trump carried by The White House.

Control over the Strait of Hormuz

Trump again said that he likes the idea of declaring the Strait of Hormuz part of the United States.

The US president also assured that his country has full control over the strait.

"We're taking out now — maybe that will stop or maybe it'll open up even further — we're taking out millions of barrels of oil a week," the president said.

Trump said the strait is open and oil prices are falling.

"And they'll continue to come down unless we decide to do something far more drastic than we're doing," he said.

Trump also reiterated that Iran has major problems, including chaos in the country and a battered military.

He also said that the US does not seek to extend the Memorandum of Understanding with Iran.

Iran's demands regarding the Strait of Hormuz

Meanwhile, Iran announced a shift to an offensive policy. The country gave the US several weeks to meet its demands, threatening a military response if negotiations fail.

It also became known that instead of relying on negotiations, Iran's leaders have spent the past several months preparing for a more serious conflict.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that in response to US plans, Tehran said it was ready to continue blocking the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi sharply responded to Trump's statement about the possibility of declaring the Strait of Hormuz US territory.
