Iran ready to end war but sets conditions: What Tehran demands
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed the country’s readiness to end the war with the United States and Israel, provided its conditions are met. The key condition is guarantees that aggression against Iran will not be repeated, according to Iranian state media.
What the Iranian President said
In his statement, Masoud Pezeshkian stressed that Iran is ready to end the war, but the decision must be made "taking into account all circumstances." According to him, Iran’s national interests will be protected at any cost.
"The war will end on our terms," Iranian media quoted the President as saying.
Tehran’s main demand is to obtain guarantees that aggression against Iran will not happen again. Pezeshkian also said that any ceasefire must take into account the country’s long-term security needs.
Who makes the decisions
Despite the President’s statement, ultimate power in Iran lies with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. He is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces and has final say on matters of war and peace.
Pezeshkian, who is considered part of the reformist camp, may express readiness for negotiations, but the final word remains with Khamenei.
The US and Israel’s war with Iran has been ongoing for more than a month. The economic consequences of the conflict have hit the global oil market — prices have surged to record levels, and Europe is preparing for prolonged disruptions in energy supplies.
The Pentagon has said the conflict has entered a decisive stage.
At the same time, Israel has confirmed its readiness to continue striking Iranian targets for several more weeks, having sufficient targets and munitions to do so.
