Iran's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alireza Enayati, said relations between Tehran and the countries of the Persian Gulf require a serious review amid war involving the United States and Israel, Reuters reports.
Call for a new format of cooperation
In a comment to Reuters, a diplomat noted that states in the region remain neighbors and cannot exist without each other.
Therefore, according to him, the current situation requires serious analysis and adjustment of existing approaches.
Enayati also pointed out that the situation of recent decades became result of internal divisions and excessive dependence of countries in the region on external players.
In this regard, he called for deepening interaction between the states of the Cooperation Council for Arab States of the Persian Gulf, as well as Iran and Iraq.
Scale of attacks in the region
Since the beginning of the war on February 28, the countries of the Persian Gulf have faced more than two thousand missile and drone attacks.
Targets included diplomatic missions, military facilities of the United States, as well as key oil infrastructure, ports, airports, hotels, and residential buildings.
The largest number of strikes fell on the United Arab Emirates. The consequences of the attacks were also felt by other states in the region, which condemned the actions of Iran.
Accusations and the position of Tehran
Iran's ambassador rejected claims about the involvement of Tehran in attacks on the oil infrastructure of Saudi Arabia, including the Ras Tanura oil refinery complex and attempts to strike the Shaybah oil field.
According to a diplomat, Iran does not bear responsibility for these attacks and stated that if the country had been involved, it would not have hidden this fact. He also emphasized that strikes were carried out exclusively against facilities and interests of the United States and Israel.
Conditions for the settlement of the conflict
According to Enayati, to end conflict, the United States and Israel must stop attacks, and states in the region should not be drawn into hostilities.
He added that international guarantees are needed to prevent the repetition of similar events in the future.
Diplomats emphasized that only after these countries in the region can they focus on development and building a stable and prosperous space.
Russia and China provide Iran with military support and are considered key strategic partners of Tehran in its confrontation with the United States and Israel.
A new supreme leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, is currently in Moscow, where he is undergoing treatment after surgery performed because of injuries received during strikes by the United States and Israel. According to available information, he is staying in one of the residences of the President of Russia.
