Russia and China provide military support to Iran and act as Tehran's strategic partners in its standoff with the United States and Israel, stated Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Strategic alliance
In an interview with MS NOW, Iran's top diplomat confirmed that Tehran maintains close cooperation with Moscow and Beijing. According to him, this collaboration is comprehensive and covers key security areas.
"We have had close cooperation in the past, which still continues, and that includes military cooperation as well," Araghchi emphasized.
He added that Iran has had "good cooperation" with these countries: "politically, economically, even militarily," naming Russia and China as strategic partners during the war against Washington and Jerusalem.
Amid this, US President Donald Trump suggested that Russian leader Vladimir Putin may be aiding Iran as a symmetrical response to US support for Ukraine.
Strait of Hormuz restrictions
Minister Araghchi also addressed shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global energy exports. Tensions in the region have already pushed oil prices above $100 per barrel.
He said that Tehran selectively restricts vessel movements in these waters. He noted that the strait is closed to tankers and ships belonging to the United States, Israel, and their allies, while remaining open for other countries.
Moscow's support for Tehran
Earlier, the Kremlin openly stated that Russia is not a neutral party in the conflict between Iran and Israel. Russia's ambassador to the UK, Andrey Kelin, stressed that Moscow officially supports Tehran and called Western actions in this situation "unfair."
Also, Iranian authorities have, for the first time, acknowledged providing military support by Russia. While cooperation had previously been kept under wraps, Tehran now confirms that arms supplies and joint defense projects are part of the strategic alliance between the two countries.
