During search and rescue operations, body parts may be discovered and initially recorded as separate fatalities. This has led to confusion in the data regarding the number of victims from the Russian night strike on Kyiv on June 17, according to Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko.

According to him, as of 5:30 p.m. Kyiv time, 12 people were killed as a result of the overnight Russian strikes on Ukraine. Of them, 10 were in the city of Kyiv, and two more were recovered from under the rubble in Odesa.

"Unfortunately, operational information is often subject to revision, as body parts may be discovered during search and rescue operations and initially recorded as separate fatalities. Final confirmation is provided by forensic experts after analysis in a mobile DNA laboratory," Klymenko explained.

He noted that rescuers and police officers continue to work at the sites of strikes on residential infrastructure.

Rescue operations are ongoing at two locations in Kyiv. There are still people under the rubble, so the efforts will continue until everyone is found.

Russia’s overnight attack on Kyiv on June 17

On the night of June 17, Russian forces attacked Ukraine, using nearly 500 attack drones and dozens of missiles.

In particular, a Kh-101 missile strike in the Solomianskyi district caused the collapse of an entire section of a nine-story apartment building, and a fire broke out in a five-story building.

Additionally, damage was recorded in the Darnytskyi, Podilskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi districts. In total, 27 locations across different parts of the capital came under enemy fire that night.

Initial reports stated 14 people were killed in Kyiv. Later, the number rose to 15. However, according to the latest data, 10 people were confirmed dead as a result of the strike on the capital.
