In Hungary, it is believed that there is currently no way and opportunity to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU, so Kyiv should be offered a privileged partnership, said the head of the administration of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Gergely Gulyás.

He added that Hungary stands in solidarity with Ukraine, providing significant financial and humanitarian support. However, according to him, this does not change the fact that Ukraine has allegedly not fulfilled the necessary conditions for the start of negotiations and has not approached them recently.

According to Gulyás, it is now appropriate to offer Ukraine a privileged partnership, but there is supposedly no way or opportunity to start negotiations on the country's accession to the EU.

He did not explain what privileged partnership is and what it would offer to Ukraine. Gulyás cited decisions that, in his opinion, negatively affect Hungarians living in Ukraine and the situation with corruption in Ukraine as examples.

"We must agree with former EU Commissioner Juncker, who says that accepting Ukraine would be a huge mistake and error," said the head of the administration of the Prime Minister of Hungary.

Hungary's position on Ukraine's EU accession

Hungary regularly tries to criticize Ukraine and blocks the adoption of important decisions. Ukraine and Brussels believe that Hungary cannot indefinitely block Ukraine's accession to the EU. EU Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn notes that the European Commission has mechanisms to make necessary decisions without Hungary.

Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanyshyna stated that Hungary could block negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. However, Ukraine has already prepared for possible objections from Budapest.

Yesterday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto stated that Hungary believes Ukraine cannot become a member of the European Union until the end of the war with Russia. This supposedly "brings war into the bloc.
