Hungary declined Ukraine's invitation to join Carpathian Eight

Ukraine invited Hungary to become a member of the Carpathian Eight. However, the country has reasons not to do so, according to a statement by Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar during a parliamentary speech, HVG reports.
Hungary has not joined the Carpathian Eight
Magyar said that his country is not a member of the Carpathian Eight format, which aims to strengthen cooperation between countries in the region.
The Hungarian prime minister said that Budapest received an invitation from Ukraine to join the format. However, it did not accept it because it had its reasons.
"We were invited, and for good reasons, we did not go," Magyar said.
At the same time, he did not explain why Hungary would not participate.
According to the outlet, the State Secretariat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the prime minister's statement that Hungary had not joined the "Carpathian Eight." However, it also provided no explanation.
Carpathian Eight
On September 18, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the creation of a new cooperation format, the Carpathian Eight.
The alliance will bring together Ukraine and seven European countries — Romania, Serbia, Poland, Slovakia, Czechia, Austria, and Hungary — as well as the EU.
It was also reported that the new cooperation format between Ukraine and its allies within the Carpathian Eight would help the country on its path toward joining the European Union.
In addition, according to Zelenskyy, the creation of the alliance is intended to bring the countries closer together and establish a new platform for addressing common challenges.
