The consequences of the US and Israel’s operation against Iran have already begun to affect the war in Ukraine, Politico reports.
The outlet, citing European officials, reports that there are concerns in Europe that the US could lose interest in the war in Ukraine. At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine may face problems with the supply of Western weapons.
It is noted that after an Iranian drone strike on a British airbase in Cyprus, a meeting scheduled for this week to discuss Ukraine’s accession to the EU was postponed. One European diplomat stressed, however, that efforts would be made to deliver the documents related to the accession process to Ukraine as quickly as possible.
€90 billion loan in question
In addition, at the end of 2023, European diplomats failed to reach an agreement on the use of frozen Russian assets for Ukraine’s reconstruction.
Last month, Hungary also blocked a €90 billion loan, without which Kyiv could face a budget deficit as early as April.
Reduction in Patriot missile supplies
If the US-involved conflict in the Middle East proves prolonged, Washington’s deliveries of missiles for Patriot systems could be reduced. Politico recalled that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already expressed concerns about this.
A representative of one European government told the outlet that a protracted war could force the US to replenish its own arsenals at the expense of missile supplies to the EU and Ukraine.
US and Israel’s operation against Iran
The joint US and Israeli operation against Iran began on the morning of February 28. American and Israeli forces carried out a series of strikes on Iranian territory.
On Sunday, March 1, US President Donald Trump officially outlined the timeframe of the military campaign against Iran, stating that the active phase of hostilities would last no more than four weeks.
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was eliminated within the first 24 hours of the joint US-Israeli operation Epic Fury, launched in February 2026.
