Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched a ballistic missile at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel on May 4, resulting in casualties, according to The Times of Israel.

The missile landed in a small forested area adjacent to an access road within the airport perimeter. The airport temporarily suspended operations but has since resumed receiving flights.

According to preliminary information, six people were injured: two men aged 50 and 64, and four women aged 22, 34, 38, and 54. Two others experienced acute stress reactions.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that they failed to intercept the ballistic missile launched by the Houthis. Israeli forces made several attempts to intercept the missile, which was fired from Yemen, but all efforts were unsuccessful.

Authorities in Israel are currently investigating the reason behind the failed interception.

Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated after the Houthi missile attack: "Whoever harms us, we will strike them sevenfold."

Israel preparing a new offensive

As reported by Bloomberg in recent days, Israel is preparing to expand its military operation in the Gaza Strip within the next few days. The decision was reportedly made during a meeting of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet on Friday, May 2.

Later, Reuters reported that Israeli reservists have been called up. They will be stationed along Israel’s borders to replace regular army troops who are expected to lead the new offensive in Gaza.
