On Monday, December 30, US President Joe Biden announced a new military aid package for Ukraine. It includes the transfer of weapons from Pentagon warehouses worth $1.25 billion, stated US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

According to Blinken, the United States is providing a significant package of urgently needed weapons and equipment to Ukrainian partners defending against aggression from Russia.

According to Blinken, the $1.25 billion military assistance package for Ukraine includes:

  • ammunition for counter-UAV systems (c-UAS);
  • ammunition for air defense;
  • ammunition for HIMARS missile systems;
  • artillery ammunition of 155-mm and 105-mm caliber;
  • air-to-ground ammunition;
  • Javelin anti-tank systems and Swedish AT-4 ATGMs;
  • TOW missiles with tube-launched, optical guidance, and wire tracking;
  • crew-served weapon ammunition and fragmentation grenades;
  • demolition equipment and munitions;
  • communications equipment, training, software, clothing and personal equipment;
  • spare parts
  • auxiliary equipment;
  • training and transportation.

"The United States and more than 50 nations stand united to ensure Ukraine has the capabilities it needs to defend itself against Russia’s aggression," Blinken added.

US assistance to Ukraine

Today, Biden announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth nearly $2.5 billion. Of this, $1.22 billion comes from the USAI program, meaning the weapons and equipment will need to be manufactured and then delivered to Ukraine. Another $1.24 billion will come from Pentagon stockpiles.

The previous aid package was announced on December 13. It included ammunition for HIMARS, artillery rounds, and drones.
