US President Joe Biden announced on Monday a new military aid package for Ukraine. It amounts to $2.5 billion, according to the White House statement.

"Today, I am proud to announce nearly $2.5 billion in security assistance for Ukraine, as the Ukrainian people continue to defend their independence and freedom from Russian aggression," the White House quoted Biden.

The Pentagon is currently in the process of delivering hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, thousands of missiles, and hundreds of armored vehicles that will strengthen Ukraine on its way to winter, the statement adds.

The new package includes $1.22 billion under the USAI program, meaning that these weapons and equipment are still to be manufactured and then transferred to Ukraine. The other $1.24 billion in aid will come from the Pentagon's stockpile.

Earlier, the Associated Press wrote that the United States would soon announce a $1.25 billion military aid package for Ukraine, including Stinger missiles and 155 mm and 105 mm artillery shells.

The previous aid package was announced on Dec.13. It included HIMARS ammunition, artillery ammunition, and drones.
