Harris urges Trump to publish his health report and again invites him to debates
The presidential race in the US is reaching its final stretch. In the weeks leading up to the elections, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has urged her opponent, Donald Trump, to release his health report and agree to debates, reports The Washington Post.
The Washington Post clarifies that on Sunday, Harris held a rally at a student basketball arena in Greenville, North Carolina. During her speech, the US Vice President challenged former President Donald Trump for refusing to do what she has been doing in recent days, specifically:
- releasing his health report;
- granting an interview on CBS's 60 Minutes;
- committing to another round of presidential debates.
Recently, Harris accused the 78-year-old Trump of concealing health facts, stating that he is unfit for office. This message has been echoed in media reports and was reiterated by Harris during the rally.
"It makes you wonder: Why does his staff want him to hide away? One must question: Are they afraid that people will see that he is too weak and unstable to lead America?" the Vice President said during her speech.
Harris's line of attack marked an attempt to switch roles with Trump, who for months has suggested that current President Joe Biden is too old to be the head of state and accused him of hiding from the American people. In turn, the Democrat's move underscored her efforts to present herself as a candidate for change, while framing Trump as a relic of the past.
"From him, we are just hearing from that same, old tired playbook. He has no plan for how he would address the needs of the American people. He is only focused on himself," the Democratic candidate stated.
The Washington Post notes that about 7,000 people attended Harris's rally, which aimed to encourage supporters in the battleground state to vote ahead of Election Day. Early voting in North Carolina will begin this Thursday.
The US presidential election will take place on November 5, 2024.
According to recent polls, as reported by The Hill, Trump is improving his chances of victory, while Harris is losing her edge over her opponent.
