Harris insists on new debates with Trump in October
US Vice President Kamala Harris is urging for new debates with her opponent, Donald Trump, in October, as the November 5 elections approach, reports Reuters.
On Sunday, September 22, Harris called on Trump to accept the proposal for a debate on CNN on October 23, which would follow their first debate on ABC on September 10.
"He should accept because I feel very strongly that we owe it to the American people and to the voters to meet once more before Election Day," Harris told her supporters at a fundraising event in New York.
"We should have another debate. My opponent is looking for a reason to avoid," she added.
Harris also acknowledged that early voting has begun in some US states but emphasized that there is still more than a month until the election.
Debates between Harris and Trump
The first debate between the main candidates for the US presidency took place on September 10. Following the discussions, Harris led Trump by 5%, although their ratings were nearly equal at the time of the debates.
On Saturday, September 21, Harris accepted CNN's invitation to participate in the debates on October 23 and urged Trump to agree to a new discussion.
However, during a rally on Saturday, Trump rejected the idea of further debates. He stated that it was already too late and cited the commencement of early voting in some states.
American edition Axios speculates that the presidential candidates may opt for interviews instead of debates.
