Hamas militants to ask Trump for truce with Israel, Fox News reports

Hamas militants have sent a letter to US President Donald Trump proposing a 60-day truce with Israel. In return, they promise to release hostages, Fox News reports.
According to an unnamed senior Trump administration official, the letter requests a 60-day pause in hostilities in exchange for the immediate release of half of the hostages held in Gaza.
The official said the letter is currently in Qatar and is planned to be delivered to Trump later this week.
Hamas hostages
Fox News notes that Hamas continues to hold 48 hostages in the Gaza Strip, with around 20 reportedly still alive.
The negotiation process had been progressing for some time, but at the beginning of the month, Israel struck Hamas positions in Doha, which led to a freeze in dialogue.
Officials hope that the delivered letter will allow talks to resume and encourage Donald Trump to personally participate in negotiations to reach an agreement, secure the release of the hostages, and bring an end to the war.
Israel recently launched an offensive on Gaza, the largest city in the Gaza Strip. The area is also regularly targeted by airstrikes.
On September 21, Axios reported, citing sources, that US President Donald Trump will meet with a group of Arab and Muslim leaders to discuss the possibility of ending the war in the Gaza Strip.
