US Vice President JD Vance, during a visit to Hungary, said he considers "haggling" between Ukraine and Russia over "a few square kilometers" to be pointless, The Guardian reports.

Commenting on the negotiation process to end the Russia-Ukraine war, Vance questioned the value of disputes over "a few square kilometres," apparently implying that Kyiv should make territorial concessions.

"What I would say to both the Russians and the Ukrainians is, you know, we’re talking about haggling at this point over a few square kilometres of territory in one direction or another. Is that worth losing hundreds of thousands of additional Russian and Ukrainian young men? Is that worth additional months or even years of higher energy prices and economic devastation? We think the answer is clearly no," he said.

The US Vice President added that "it takes two to tango," meaning Russia and Ukraine must reach an agreement themselves.

Vance’s visit to Hungary

US Vice President JD Vance arrived in Hungary a few days ahead of the parliamentary elections.

According to opinion polls, Viktor Orbán is being overtaken by Péter Magyar, an opposition figure and the main challenger to the pro-Russian Prime Minister.

During his visit to Budapest, Vance accused Ukrainian intelligence of attempting to influence the outcome of Hungary’s elections.

He also backed Orbán ahead of the parliamentary vote and likened him to Trump, calling both peacemakers.
