Minnesota Governor Walz selected as Harris's vice presidential nominee
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has decided that if she wins the elections, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will become vice president, according to Harris's post on X.
"I am proud to announce that I've asked Tim Walz to be my running mate," she announced.
According to her, as governor, coach, teacher, and veteran, Walz "delivered for working families like his".
What is known about Walz
Tim Walz is the governor of Minnesota, a position he has held for two terms. He is also the chairman of the Democratic Governors Association.
Before being elected governor, Walz served in the US Congress for 12 years. He was also a teacher, an assistant football coach, and served in the US National Guard.
The future governor grew up in a small town in Nebraska. Western media reports that white Americans from rural areas see him as one of their own.
According to journalists from reputable Western media outlets, this fact may help Harris gain the sympathy of some Republican voters.
Today, August 6, CNN and The New York Times reported, citing sources, that Harris has decided to choose Tim Walz as her vice presidential candidate.
By the way, as previously reported by Reuters, Harris was choosing her vice presidential candidate between two contenders: Governor of Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro and Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz.
Josh Shapiro could have become the first Jewish Vice President of the United States, and his candidacy was also supported by Israel.
