Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is likely to become Vice President of the United States if Kamala Harris from Democrats wins the presidential election, according to CNN and The New York Times.

Four unnamed CNN sources confirmed that Harris had chosen Walz.

Updated.

NYT sources also confirm that Walz is Harris's candidate for vice president.

About Walz

Walz, who is a former educator, is currently serving his second term as governor of Minnesota and is the head of the Democratic Governors Association.

Before that, he served 12 years in Congress and represented a conservative rural district.

Walz was also a member of the US National Guard.

The governor of Minnesota became an active supporter of Kamala Harris after she began her run for the presidency. He criticized her opponent, former President Donald Trump.

As Reuters wrote, Walz can help Harris to attract the main Republican voters - white Americans from rural areas.

Who else was on the list

Earlier, the media reported that Harris was likely to choose Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as her VP candidate.

Later, the media clarified that the Democratic candidate was choosing between Shapiro and Walz.

Josh Shapiro is Jewish, so he is actively supported by Israel. According to Reuters, if Harris had chosen Shapiro, it could have alienated progressive Democratic voters who oppose the actions of the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip.
