Germany urges Iran not to cut ties with IAEA

Germany is calling on Iran not to cease its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and to make it "clear" that it does not seek to acquire nuclear weapons, states German Foreign Ministry head Johann Wadephul, according to dpa.
According to the minister, the leadership in Tehran must declare "definitively, clearly and transparently" that it does not intend to acquire nuclear weapons. He described the parliament’s decision to halt cooperation with the IAEA as "the wrong signal."
As dpa reports, in order to completely sever cooperation with the IAEA, the parliamentary decision would also need approval from Iran’s Guardian Council and the Supreme National Security Council, which is headed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
"I call on the Iranian government not to go down this path," Wadephul said.
