Germany plans to make an extra contribution to the PURL initiative, through which NATO countries purchase US weapons for Ukraine. The contribution will total at least 150 million euros, stated German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, according to DPA news agency.

After meeting with defense ministers from France, the UK, Italy, and Poland, as well as the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, Pistorius confirmed that Germany will allocate 150 million euros to PURL.

Pistorius also stressed the importance of supporting Ukraine, noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin is clearly trying to make Ukraine’s winter unbearable and break the will of the Ukrainian people through terror.

Germany’s contribution is significant, especially since on November 13, eight European countries announced 500 million dollars in funding for the purchase of military equipment and ammunition for Ukraine under PURL.

According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, total partner contributions for covering Ukraine’s immediate defense needs under the PURL program have already reached 2.82 billion dollars. This funding has enabled the creation of five US weapons packages for Ukraine.

What is PURL?

PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) is a joint US-NATO program that allows Ukraine to receive American weapons funded by NATO partner countries. Ukraine provides a list of priority needs, and partner countries finance the purchase in the US.

PURL significantly speeds up arms delivery. Supplies come from existing US stockpiles rather than new orders, ensuring Ukraine gets exactly what it needs, when it needs it.
