Germany has developed a 10-point plan to strengthen cooperation with Ukraine in the defense industry, which has already been presented to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to Reuters.
"A strong Ukrainian defence industry is crucial for defence against Russia's war of aggression and is an important element of security guarantees to deter future Russian aggression," the German plan states.
The document envisions closer collaboration between Ukraine and Germany in defense research, joint ventures, and procurement. Berlin is also considering the use of federal investment guarantees.
German authorities have promised to explore the possibility of joint purchases of Ukrainian-made defense products to protect NATO airspace under the European Sky Shield Initiative, including interceptor drones.
According to the plan, the defense ministries of both countries will hold regular high-level consultations, and a representative office of the Ukrainian defense industry, Ukraine Freedom House, will be established in Berlin to strengthen industry ties.
Germany will also increase the presence of its military attachés in Kyiv and expand the exchange of experts, the statement said.
Additionally, Germany and Ukraine will implement comprehensive measures to prevent corruption.
Record German aid to Ukraine
A few weeks ago, the German Bundestag approved the federal budget for 2026.
The document provides for a record level of aid to Ukraine, with Germany expected to spend €11.5 billion on support for the country next year.
