Germany approves additional €400 mln for military aid to Ukraine
On Wednesday, September 25, the Bundestag approved the German government's proposal to increase funding for military support to Ukraine. The total support amounts to approximately €400 million, according to the federal government of Germany.
As stated in the report, Russia's aggressive war has caused massive damage to Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. As a result, Germany will provide an additional €170 million in the short term to help restore Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
Additionally, the Bundestag approved an increase in funding for Ukraine's military support by approximately €400 million. These funds will allow for the purchase of additional air defense systems, tanks, drones, ammunition, and spare parts, effectively strengthening the Ukrainian armed forces in their defense efforts.
Germany's aid to Ukraine
In August, the media reported that under Chancellor Olaf Scholz's directive, new requests for funding to support Ukraine would not be approved. This is because in 2024, the German government had already allocated around €8 billion for military support to Ukraine. The budget funds earmarked for 2025, amounting to €4 billion, were fully distributed.
However, in September, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius expressed hope that his country’s government would be able to find additional resources to continue supplying arms to Ukraine in 2024.
On September 19, Germany allocated a new military aid package to Ukraine, which included various weapons and equipment.
It is also notable that, in recent days, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a conversation "behind completely closed doors."
