Germany will transfer additional Patriot systems to Ukraine in phases to strengthen the country's air defense, the press service of the Bundeswehr reports.

In the coming days, the Bundeswehr will deliver Patriot air defense systems, and in the second phase, within the next two to three months, the German side will send additional system components to Ukraine.

"This process (of transferring additional air defense systems to Ukraine - ed.) is the result of close coordination with the United States and our NATO allies. The governments of Germany and the US initiated this coordination process on July 14, 2025, to significantly strengthen Ukraine's air defense capabilities," the Bundeswehr stated.

Thanks to the joint efforts of Germany and the US, the systems will undergo comprehensive servicing and be restored to full operational readiness.

At the same time, an agreement was reached with the US Department of Defense under which Germany will become the first country to receive the latest-generation Patriot systems on an accelerated schedule as compensation for the systems transferred to Ukraine.

"Germany can initially support Ukraine with launchers and later with additional Patriot components. It's clear that Germany is the strongest supporter of Ukraine in the field of air defense," said German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

Patriot systems for Ukraine

US President Donald Trump recently announced that Ukraine would receive Patriot air defense systems funded by NATO allies. He stated that Kyiv would get 17 systems.

Moreover, during a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format, participants promised to help Ukraine strengthen its air defenses.

The German Defense Minister confirmed that his country is ready to provide two Patriot systems, though he warned this would only be possible if they are replaced promptly.

Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans also announced that the Netherlands is ready to make a substantial contribution to the transfer of American systems to Ukraine.

On July 22, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Berlin and Norway would make a "significant contribution" to Ukraine's air defense.

However, on July 23, German officials stated that the Patriot systems referenced by US President Donald Trump would not arrive in Ukraine before the spring of 2026.
