Germany and Norway to finance three systems for Ukraine, says Zelenskyy

Germany is ready to pay for two US-made Patriot air defense systems for Ukraine, and Norway will fund one more, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a conversation with Ukrainian and international media representatives.
"We discussed with our partners the possibility of purchasing additional necessary weapons packages in Europe and the US. We’ve shared the details of this package with our friends and are hoping for their support," Zelenskyy said.
According to him, this includes air defense systems, specifically Patriot systems and missiles for them, as well as artillery and other types of weapons that "strengthen the Ukrainian army and are urgently needed for defense."
"We’re having a positive dialogue with President Trump on Patriot systems. I submitted a request for 10 Patriot systems and a corresponding number of missiles. Germany is ready to pay for two of them, there is already an agreement, and Norway is ready to pay for one,” the President said.
He added that once Ukraine receives a clear response from the manufacturer and various US channels regarding delivery timelines, other European partners will also join in.
"This is the current funding model for US Patriot systems. We already have an understanding of where the funding will start coming from," Zelenskyy added.
Patriot for Ukraine
According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the United States wants to discuss with NATO allies the possibility of transferring Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. However, so far, no country is willing to part with these weapons.
On July 9, US President Donald Trump confirmed that Ukraine had requested Patriot systems from Washington. The American leader said the US would consider the request, but made no specific promises.
Earlier, media reports suggested that Trump might provide Ukraine with an additional Patriot system.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also stated that Germany is ready to purchase Patriot systems from the United States to transfer them to Ukraine.
