German Foreign Ministry mocks Trump over his statement during debate
US presidential candidate Donald Trump criticized Germany's energy policy during the debate. Berlin mocked this criticism, according to the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Twitter (X).
What Trump said
During the debates, Trump criticized Kamala Harris's push for a transition to renewable energy, stating that Germany had already attempted to do so but had failed to move away from fossil fuels.
Germany's reaction
Later, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to Trump's statement.
"Like it or not: Germany’s energy system is fully operational, with more than 50% renewables. And we are shutting down – not building – coal & nuclear plants. Coal will be off the grid by 2038 at the latest," the ministry stated.
The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs also added "We also don’t eat cats and dogs," thus mocking Trump's false claim that immigrants from Haiti are eating pets in one of the cities in Ohio.
