On the night of Wednesday, December 31, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck the Tuapse oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. In addition, the Tamanneftegaz oil and gas terminal, a strategic reserve fuel depot, and Russian ammunition warehouses were also targeted, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"Strikes by attack drones hit the refinery territory, causing subsequent fires. The primary oil processing unit (ELU-AVT-12) and complex deep-processing installations were damaged," the statement said.

The Tuapse refinery is among the ten largest in Russia and is focused on exports, with a processing capacity of around 12 million tons of oil products per year.

The plant is part of Russia’s energy backbone and supports the Russian armed forces. It produces various grades of motor gasoline, straight-run gasoline (used in petrochemicals), diesel fuel, and fuel oil.

In addition, the Defense Forces struck the Tamanneftegaz oil and gas terminal in Krasnodar. The terminal stores and transships oil, petroleum products, and liquefied hydrocarbon gases for export and to supply Russian forces. The General Staff confirmed that two berths with tankers were hit at the terminal.

Also during the night, Ukrainian attack drones hit the Temp Russian reserve fuel depot in the Yaroslavl region, which handles storage, receipt, distribution, and accounting of strategic reserves, including petroleum products. A large-scale fire was reported at the facility.

Additionally, a temporary base for river patrol boats near Olenivka, in temporarily occupied Crimea, was struck. Hits were also recorded on Russian ammunition depots near the settlements of Blyzhnie and Siyatel in the Donetsk region.

"The Defense Forces continue to take measures to undermine the military-economic potential of Russian occupiers and force Russia to end its armed aggression against Ukraine," the General Staff said.

Strikes on Russian refineries

On the night of December 31, Russian media and social channels reported explosions in Tuapse. Russia acknowledged a drone attack, with large fires breaking out at the oil refinery and terminal following multiple explosions.

Previously, on the night of December 28, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck the Syzran oil refinery.

Earlier, on December 25, Russia’s Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery was hit once again.
