Ukraine seeks to unite the efforts of international partners to create a powerful air defense shield. The country will involve as many states as possible in an anti-ballistic coalition, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis said in a comment to journalists.

Purpose of the new coalition

According to the diplomat, countries with relevant technical or industrial capabilities are expected to be involved in the process.

The cooperation will include both research and development, as well as direct funding or production of anti-ballistic systems.

This area of work is one of the main priorities for the foreign ministry.

The need to rapidly strengthen air defense is driven by preparations for future challenges.

Protection of critical infrastructure

The government emphasizes that preparations for the next heating season have already begun. The main task is to protect Ukraine’s power generation facilities and networks from future attacks.

"We know for sure that the enemy will try to disable our energy facilities. That is why this must be done as quickly as possible," said Yevhen Perebyinis.

What preceded this?

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff on strengthening air defense, during which he stated that the creation of an anti-ballistic coalition had begun in Europe.

According to him, this strategic decision will allow European countries to ensure sufficient domestic production of air defense systems and missiles, while Ukraine expects its air shield to be strengthened by early summer.

In addition, following another large-scale Russian strike, international partners have stepped up their defense support for Kyiv. In particular, the United Kingdom will significantly accelerate the delivery of air defense systems to Ukraine and counter-drone capabilities.

Meanwhile, Brussels is finalizing preparations for a strong response to Russian terror — the EU is completing a €6 billion aid package for Ukraine, which will be directed toward procurement and strengthening of the drone fleet.
