The war in Ukraine could continue for several more months. At the same time, Russia is unlikely to go any further and does not plan to directly attack NATO, Finnish President Alexander Stubb said in an interview with the Finnish newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet.
How much longer the war will last
According to the President of Finland, the fighting in Ukraine will not stop in the near future. Alexander Stubb believes the war will continue for at least another three to four months.
The Finnish leader commented on warnings from some countries, including Sweden, about a possible Russian attack on a NATO member state after peace is established in Ukraine. The president called such forecasts mistaken.
"I fundamentally disagree. Russia's goal is to throw Europe and European countries off balance. Part of this hybrid operation is to make Europeans themselves believe in a Russian attack. As president and commander-in-chief, I see no evidence of that," Stubb said.
What Russia will remain even after defeat
Alexander Stubb stressed that a stable and secure Russia is critically important for Finland. At the same time, the president made several predictions:
-
Russia will not become a democratic and open country even if it loses the war;
-
Most likely, Russia will remain an isolated state;
-
Russia's economy will continue to lag behind developed countries.
Earlier, NATO General Alexus Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, said that Russia would not dare attack the Baltic states because Moscow understands it would face inevitable military defeat in a conflict with NATO.
According to him, the Kremlin is not currently seeking a confrontation with the West.
56% of Ukrainians believe the United States is pushing Kyiv toward concessions to Russia, according to a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.
At the same time, confidence in European support is growing: 64% of respondents are convinced that European partners continue to provide serious assistance to Ukraine.
