Explosions reported in Zaporizhzhia region amid ballistic missile threat

Explosions were heard this evening, May 23, in the Zaporizhzhia region. They occurred amid a Russian air attack, with earlier warnings of possible missile strikes, according to Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration.
"Explosions in the Zaporizhzhia region! Stay in safe places until the all-clear," wrote regional governor Ivan Fedorov at 11:00 PM Kyiv time.
Earlier, Fedorov had warned of potential missile strikes by Russian forces, specifically ballistic missiles targeting the region. Monitoring groups also flagged possible ballistic threats aimed at Zaporizhzhia.
Roughly 30 minutes before the explosions, Fedorov reported increased Russian tactical aviation activity and warned of possible air-dropped guided bomb (KAB) attacks.
Russia launches combined air assault across Ukraine
On Friday evening, Russian forces launched several groups of kamikaze drones toward Ukraine. As a result, air raid alerts were issued across multiple regions.
Explosions were reported in Kyiv and the surrounding area, where air defense was actively engaged. In Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district, debris from downed drones caused a fire. Two people were also injured in the Brovary district, Kyiv region, due to the drone attacks.
Earlier on May 23, Russian troops launched ballistic missile strikes on Odesa. At least two people were killed in the attack.
