Explosions reported in Russia's Maykop, Adygea
On the night of December 7, several explosions were heard in Maykop, the capital of the Adygea Autonomous Region in Russia. The blasts were reportedly audible in the area around the local airfield, according to the Russian outlet Astra and Telegram channels.
Russian media began reporting the explosions in Maikop after 2:00 AM Moscow time.
Initially, Russian Telegram channels suggested gas cylinder explosions could have caused the blasts.
However, later reports indicated that air defense systems were active in the area near the capital of the Republic of Adygea.
According to the Telegram channel SHOT, residents of Maykop heard at least two powerful explosions near the local airfield.
"No air raid alert has been issued in the region yet, and there is no official information so far," Russian media outlets added.
Astra further noted that locals observed a column of smoke in the Cheremushky district after the explosions.
Additionally, footage of the explosion in Maykop surfaced online.
Note: The Russian airbase Khanskaya is located 3 km east of the Khanskaya settlement and 6 km northwest of Maykop.
According to open sources, the Khanskaya airfield can accommodate aircraft such as Tu-134, An-12, and Ilyushin Il-18, as well as helicopters of all types.

Explosions in Adygea near Maykop
It is not the first time reports of explosions have emerged near the capital of Russia's Adygea Autonomous Region. On the night of October 10, drones attacked the military airfield Khanskaya near Maykop. A fire broke out near the airfield.
Later, Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, stated that a fuel depot at the Khanskaya airfield in Adygea had been destroyed.
In June, reports also surfaced of a drone attack on an oil refinery in the Krasnodar region and Adygea, which caused fires.
