Expert assesses Russian advance near Bakhmut: It can hardly be called serious
The Russian advance near Bakhmut is unlikely to be considered serious. At present, the occupiers have formally occupied only one quarter, according to the material by RBC-Ukraine, "Russian offensives in Donbas and Ukrainian maneuvers near Kherson: Frontline developments at winter's onset."
According to some data, the occupiers may have partially captured the town of Khromove, which could become a crucial point for further advancement to the east.
According to DeepState maps, the town is partially marked with a gray zone. From reports, it is known that the Russians have taken a stronghold near Bohdanivka and continue to search for ways to Khromove. The distance from there to Chasovyi Yar is about five kilometers in a straight line, and Russian propaganda is already predicting a battle for this settlement.
The expert Oleksii Hetman, Ukrainian Armed Forces Reserve Major noted that the distance from Bakhmut to Khromove is insignificant.
"It's not kilometers from Bakhmut to Khromove, it's, roughly speaking, the eastern outskirts or an additional block. Can their advance be considered serious? Hardly. Besides, there is information that the attacks were repelled," he said.
Hetman noted that similar battles are taking place along the entire front line. Troops occupy certain positions and quickly change them – the front is "blurred."
"It is an exaggeration to say that the Russians control something seriously there," the expert believes.
Course of hostilities
According to the spokesman for the Ground Forces, Volodymyr Fitio, before the storm, the occupiers actively shelled our positions with artillery, and if the weather allowed, they engaged aviation. In turn, Ukrainian defenders maintain active defense and switch to the attack when the opportunity arises, improving tactical positions.
