The European Commission plans to provide an assessment of the progress made by countries on their path to EU membership by late October, including Ukraine, informs the EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarína Mathernová.

"I’d just like to announce that on October 30, in less than two weeks, we will see the release of the 2024 enlargement package," she said.

According to the ambassador, this is the European Commission's annual progress review for countries seeking EU membership.

"Ukraine will be assessed as well," Mathernová noted.

Ukraine's EU membership

On December 14 last year, during a summit in Brussels, the European Council backed the start of accession talks with Ukraine.

Ukraine was granted EU candidate status last year, but the country must meet seven conditions to achieve full membership.

Recently, the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Oleksandr Korniyenko, suggested that Ukraine could join NATO before becoming a member of the EU, citing the pace of negotiations and the EU's traditional approach to enlargement.
