HISTORIC DECISION: EU COUNCIL BACKS UKRAINE'S ACCESSION NEGOTIATIONS START
The European Council has decided to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU, according to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
"The European Council has decided to open accession negotiations with Ukraine & Moldova," Michel writes on X.
The EU summit and talks on Ukraine's accession
Today, on December 14th, the European Council summit began in Brussels. One of the main issues to be discussed is the negotiations regarding Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
Previously, the European Commission recommended initiating such negotiations in its report, but Budapest is against this decision.
According to Hungary's Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, his country does not oppose Ukraine's accession to the EU, but the issue of starting the negotiations needs to be postponed for six months.
