The European Union should strengthen Ukraine and its military capabilities to such an extent that nothing remains of Russian oil refineries but ruins, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal said.
He criticized US President Donald Trump's decision to ease sanctions restrictions on Russian diesel fuel.
In the Estonian premier's view, the White House chief had made a seriously damaging mistake.
He pointed out that such a deal undermines years of Western efforts to reduce the Kremlin's revenue from energy exports.
Amid recent developments, Michal recalled that the United States itself had previously urged its allies to stop buying Russian fuel.
"This is a major miscalculation, as deals with dictators are a path to hell. Innocent people are being killed using the proceeds from gas and fuel sales. Furthermore, it is highly likely that the anticipated fuel will not materialize," the Estonian prime minister said.
That is why he is proposing that the European Union discuss a rapid increase in military support for Ukraine, for example, at this week's European Council meeting.
"In the coming week, both Estonia and the European Council should discuss whether we can quickly increase our support for Ukraine to enable them to smash Russian oil refineries to smithereens," Michal stressed.
As previously reported, on October 10, Donald Trump publicly demanded that Ukraine stop striking Russian oil refineries.
Amid this, Germany made it clear it would not lift its sanctions on Russia after the US president's decision.
Meanwhile, US senators said that Trump had turned the United States into a sponsor of terrorism.
