Drone and ballistic strike on Kyiv: rescuers report on aftermath response

Emergency response teams in Kyiv are continuing efforts to eliminate the consequences of last night’s combined Russian aerial strike. Rescuers have shared footage from the scene and revealed further details, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
"During the night of May 24, Kyiv came under another combined attack involving drones and ballistic missiles," emergency responders reported, adding that efforts to eliminate the aftermath of the strike were ongoing at several locations across the capital.
Solomianskyi district
A fire broke out in apartments on the 4th and 5th floors of a five-story residential building. The blaze was extinguished by 30 personnel and 8 units of firefighting and rescue equipment.
"Using a rescue hood, firefighters saved a man who was handed over to medics with a preliminary diagnosis of smoke inhalation," the emergency service reported.
Obolonskyi district
Fires broke out on balconies of a nine-story residential building from the 3rd to the 6th floors. The fires have been extinguished.
"Rescuers helped three people get to the fresh air. Another four sought medical assistance with a preliminary diagnosis of acute stress reaction," the SES said.
Sviatoshynskyi district
A fire occurred in a single-story non-residential building used to store paint and varnish materials. Response operations are still underway.
Drone and missile strike on Kyiv
Last night, Kyiv endured a multi-wave combined air attack by Russian forces. The assault began in the evening of May 23 with kamikaze drones launched toward the Ukrainian capital. Later at night, the enemy followed up with ballistic missiles and dozens of Shahed drones. The air raid alert in Kyiv was not lifted until 5:10 AM Kyiv time.
During the drone strike on the evening of May 23, debris from a UAV damaged four vehicles in the Holosiivskyi district. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
During the nighttime barrage involving kamikaze drones and missiles, explosions were again heard across Kyiv as air defense systems actively engaged the threats. Falling debris from the Russian aerial targets was recorded in multiple districts. Authorities reported eight injured civilians. Local officials also said debris hit a shopping center and a residential building in the Obolonskyi district, causing a fire.
