US President Donald Trump said he has postponed his planned visit to China by about six weeks and expects to hold a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in mid-May, Bloomberg reports.

"I think we’re going to have a great trip. The trip has been postponed for about a month and a half. It’s been reset, and look forward to it," Trump stated.

At the same time, the US President did not specify an exact date for the visit.

Earlier, Trump had said he expected to hold a summit with Xi Jinping in "five or six weeks," but, according to him, the trip had to be delayed due to the need to focus on US military operations in Iran.

The upcoming summit is expected to be important for the global economy, which is already being affected by the conflict in the Middle East.

The war in the Middle East has now entered its third week and remains the top priority for Washington. It is for this reason that US President Donald Trump postponed his visit to China, which had previously been planned for late March.

At the same time, the trip is considered key for US-China relations. The future of the trade truce between the two countries will largely depend on the outcome of the summit.
