He clarified that the request would include not only expenses directly related to the war against Iran, but also broader defense needs.
"It’s a small price to pay to make sure that we stay tippy top," the US leader said.
According to him, the key issue is ensuring the military has sufficient ammunition supplies.
At the same time, Trump denied that the United States is facing a shortage of weapons, stressing that the administration is being "judicious" about its spending.
"We’re asking for a lot of reasons, beyond even what we’re talking about in Iran. Munitions in particular, at the high end we have a lot, but we’re preserving it," he added.
Amid the war with Iran, discussions are underway in the US about a sharp increase in defense spending. Earlier, The Washington Post reported that the Pentagon had already asked the White House to approve a request to Congress for more than $200 billion to fund the war against Iran.
However, there is no consensus within the administration on the next steps: some of Donald Trump’s advisers, according to The Wall Street Journal, urged him to end the conflict due to rising oil prices and the risks of a prolonged war.
The debate is also fueled by doubts about the scale of the Iranian threat. In particular, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard did not state in her remarks that Tehran had not attempted to resume its nuclear program after the 2025 strikes, although Trump has described it as the main objective of the war.
