Deadly Russian missile strike hits Ukrainian military training facility, casualties reported

On the night of August 12, Russia launched a missile strike on the territory of one of the Ukrainian Ground Forces' training units. The attack left one soldier dead and several others wounded, according to the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
The statement says that personnel were promptly alerted after receiving the missile threat signal.
"Despite the safety measures taken, while moving to prepared shelters and bunkers, a group of servicemen came under fire from cluster munitions," the report said.
As of 9:00 a.m. Kyiv time, there is information about one fatality and 11 wounded of different degrees of severity. Another 12 soldiers sought medical help with complaints of acoustic trauma and acute stress.
Emergency services are working at the site of the strike, and the wounded are receiving necessary medical assistance.
"To preserve the lives and health of our personnel, work on equipping training centers, ranges, and other military facilities with reliable shelters continues. Moreover, additional safety measures are being implemented to protect servicemen during enemy missile and air attacks," the Ground Forces added.
Strikes on training grounds
Earlier this summer, Russia intensified its attacks on Ukrainian military training centers and ranges. On June 1, Russia hit the 239th training ground in the Dnipropetrovsk region with an Iskander missile. That attack killed 12 people and wounded over 60.
Following the tragedy, then-Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces Mykhailo Drapatyi resigned.
On June 4, the enemy launched a missile strike on a training unit in the Poltava region. On June 22, Russian forces attacked a training range of one of the mechanized brigades during military exercises.
After these terrorist strikes, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, banned the mass gathering of troops at training ranges.
