Originally developed in the 1960s, the Kub surface-to-air missile system has been adapted to counter modern threats and is successfully repelling drone attacks, according to the Air Command Center.
The military said that the Kub missile system has returned to active service in Ukraine and is successfully defending against drone attacks.
The system, originally developed in the 1960s to target aircraft, has been adapted to counter modern threats, including the widespread use of attack drones.
The strength of the system lies not just in the hardware, but in professional operation. Ukrainian specialists have combined the proven platform with modern command and tactical solutions.
The Command stressed that the system destroyed five Shahed drones in actual combat conditions. Although rarely showcased publicly, the Kub plays a critical role in protecting cities and civilians.
"The age of the system isn't what matters. What matters are the people keeping the sky safe," the military emphasized.
Anti-drone dome
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense recently presented an updated version of the Octopus drone interceptor in Kyiv city and explained its significance.
At the same time, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stressed that the Ukrainian military is now focused on creating its own "anti-drone dome."
Fedorov also approved the appointment of one of Ukraine's most successful commanders, Pavlo "Lazar" Yelizarov, as Deputy Chief of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In his new role, Yelizarov will be responsible for developing short-range air defense and drone-interception areas.
