China has publicly called on Kyiv and Moscow to return to the negotiating table. Beijing also outlined how it believes the process should unfold, according to a United Nations Security Council meeting.
China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sun Lei, made a new call for peace. His statement came during a meeting of the UN Security Council.
The diplomat stressed that Chinese President Xi Jinping's team insists on an immediate cessation of hostilities. Beijing believes that only after that can negotiations resume.
Against this backdrop, Sun Lei called on Kyiv and Moscow to demonstrate political will. He added that the search for ways to achieve a peaceful settlement should begin without delay.
The Chinese diplomat also unexpectedly mentioned the suffering of the civilian population. Lei assured that this "issue is consistent and clear."
It should be recalled that China still does not acknowledge that it is an ally of Russia in the war against Ukraine. It continues to maintain neutrality.
Despite this, Western governments, analysts, and intelligence agencies emphasize that Beijing provides Moscow with significant indirect support, including economic, financial, and diplomatic assistance.
Russia also regularly receives dual-use goods from China, including microelectronics, machine tools, optical equipment, drones and their components, and communication equipment. The aggressor country actively uses all of this to support its military-industrial complex.
Earlier, it was reported on how China responded to NATO's new accusations regarding assistance to Russia. Beijing expressed outrage, saying the Alliance was deliberately provoking China into conflict.
Another major dispute has also erupted between China and the European Union. Xi Jinping's team panicked over new sanctions imposed for supporting Moscow.
It was also reported on how Chinese military engines are secretly reaching Russia.
